Fancy-Dancer
Jack Carnes Lures
Little Rock, AR
Late 1940s
When it comes to a classic lure name or an image on a box, this months “Lure Of The Month” would rank right up there with one of my favorites.
The Fancy-Dancer name is catchy, and the image of the smiling lure dancing in a hula skirt is certainly unusual. Near the name and the lure image it states “OH BOY!” and “Action! Action! Action!”.
This lure featured a slanted face with a hole in the center that went all the way though the wooden lure and out of the tail end. This tunnel and face allowed the lure to “dance” wildly in the water on retrieve, bobbing up and down as well as side to side. Also, as water traveled through the lure, it left a small bubble trail behind.
The side of the box also states that this lure “does it all” and is perfect “for a poper…for trolling…for casting”. I assume they meant to state that it was a good popper, not a “poper”.
This lure is not very common as they were only manufactured for a short time by a small company shortly after World War II. They don’t command high dollars when it comes to collecting as it is such an “unknown” lure company. Still, being I like the baits that are a little unusual, it fits well into my collection.
