Many people enjoy things that fizzle and pop around Independence Day, so I thought this month I would feature a lure that does the same.
The Boiling Y Lure had a “door” that would open on the top of the bait. In here, you would insert a tablet that would “give a boiling effect in the water to attract fish and get the big, lazy ones”.
Not only did this lure bubble, but it also had tablets that came in 5 different flavors such as Bass, Oil of Anise, Shad, Shrimp, and every fishes favorite…Strawberry! Tablets were included with the lure. When you run out of tablets, you needed to order more… or find a substitute (maybe Alka-Seltzer)…or use the bait without anything.
While this lure is not that old and towards the end of a list of many lures over the years that bubbled, I am featuring it this month.
Oh great, now I have that “Plop Plop Fizz Fizz” jingle in my head….
I wonder what the "Bass" flavor tastes like? Do I dare try it?
