The Hoef-te-do Wobbler was a play on the inventors name, Leroy C. Hoefer, who applied for a patent in 1936 and had it approved in 1937. When looking at the patent, it appears only the feathered tail of the bait is listed on the patent.
Known primarily for his panfish and crappie baits, this lure was designed for larger fish and was said to catch bass, northerns, lake trout, muskies, and wall-eyed pike (walleye).
The spoon on the bait is stamped with the name “Hoef-te-do” and the trailing feathers were available in three color combinations: Red head, yellow and red body – Black head and white and yellow body – Blue head and while and red body. The bait only came with one single hook “which gives the fish a better chance to put up a good fight”.
The cost of these lures was $1.50 each…or $4.50 if you ordered all three. Note that you don’t save anything if you order all three as they are still $1.50 each.
The spinner came in a bright yellow and red box. Also included in the box was a pad that was to be used to polish the spoon to give it a nice shine before fishing.
