Most of us have heard of the L.E.D. (Light Emitting Diode), but how about the L.E.P.? This was a small bait that imitated a firefly by having a lighted tail.

If this bait was twisted clockwise and pulled apart two small batteries could be inserted. After reassembly, the lure would light up and it was ready to fish. After use, it was recommended to remove the head and batteries to prevent it from accidentally turning on when not in use.

While this is newer than most of the lures I collect, I had to add this bait to my “battery” lures collection. I don’t think many of these where manufactured as I don’t see them too often.

I find it a little humorous that “emitting” is spelled wrong on the packaging. 1983 doesn’t seem that long ago but home computers, email, and spell check were in their infancy.
