This month’s Lure Of The Month is a bait cage used for fishing. Most likely it was intended for holding crickets or frogs.
I have found out little information on this bait cage, and not a lot of them have surfaced over the years from what I have seen.
This bait cage is collapsible and can reduce down to the thickness of a small notebook. Quite handy as you could then even carry it in a tackle box until you picked up or caught some bait. The size of the box is roughly 8 X 6 inches. Small, yet could still hold a lot of bait for fishing.
North Star Specialist and Manufacturing Company started operation in 1921 and I found them in operation until the 1950s. After that, I can’t seem to locate any data. I have added a photo of the company taken in 1953.
If you have any more information on the cage or the company, please let me know.
