It is March and it is that time of the year again. Time to celebrate the holiday of St Urho’s Day!
In honor of this “made up” Holiday, the Lure Of The Month for March is the original Finn Spoon.
The Finn has one of the best slogans I have seen which is “Triple action for attraction”. The three actions are flash, spinning, and wobbling. Little is known about this bait and the years it was made, but I do find them from time to time in Minnesota.
StrikeMaster got its start right after World War II, around 1946. They were one of the first new companies to spring up to try to satisfy the need for America to return to the great outdoors after the war. They are still in business today as a tackle resale business and known for their ice augers that they have been manufacturing since the beginning of their company. However, this lure was probably made by a different company named "Strike Master" in Minnesota. According to a current representative from StrikeMaster, they have never made fishing lures and have only resold baits.
On a side note, a company in Michigan is called the “Finn Tackle Company”. They have been in business since 1954 and sell spoons for fishing…but it is not related to Strike Master or “the original Finn spoon” in any way. According to a current representative from this company, they never manufactured this spoon.
So, this spoon is still surrounded with a little mystery....
